DMT street names

DMT has several street names. The Australian Alcohol and Drug Foundation lists Dimitri, Deems, the spirit molecule, changa, fantasia, the glory and the sacrament, and the US National Institute on Drug Abuse lists DMT as “also called: Businessman’s Trip” (NIDA). Slang varies by place and time, so no list is complete. Its chemical name is N,N-dimethyltryptamine, and it is said letter by letter, “dee-em-TEE”.

Some names point to a different product. “Changa” names a smoking blend that contains DMT, and in 3,778 coded online reports it was mentioned in 4.4% (Lawrence et al., 2022). DMT is also not LSD (“acid”): they are different molecules with very different timing.

The main lesson is that a name is not a test. A student-run drug-checking service at a Canadian university tested 121 samples between 2021 and 2024, and 38 (31.4%) did not match what the person expected (Airth et al., 2025). The study did not report a figure for DMT alone. Calling a substance by a nickname does not change its legal status either: in Canada, the Schedule III entry for DMT extends to anything that contains it (Justice Laws, CDSA). This is not legal advice.
