THE JOURNAL · WHO MAKES IT

Who makes the journal.

The Shroomverse journal is written and edited by the Shroomverse editorial team in Toronto. This page says who checks what, the steps every article goes through before it is published, and where outside reviewers come in.

The editorial team

Articles are bylined to the Shroomverse editorial team rather than to one writer, because each one goes through several separate stages of research, drafting and checking. The team is responsible for every word on the page and for fixing anything we get wrong. Our rules for sourcing and corrections are on the editorial standards page.

The steps every article goes through

  1. Research from primary sources. Peer-reviewed papers (read through Europe PMC and Crossref), Health Canada and Government of Canada pages, statutes on Justice Laws, and registries such as ClinicalTrials.gov. Each source is opened on the date shown on the article.
  2. A draft with evidence labels. Every factual paragraph says how strong its evidence is: established, preliminary or unresolved. Animal results say so, surveys say they are self-selected, and preprints say they are not peer reviewed.
  3. An independent editorial check. A separate review pass, done independently of the drafting, re-opens sources, checks that no claim is stronger than its source, and removes anything that breaks our rules: no doses, no preparation, no sourcing, no product links.
  4. Automated checks. Before publishing, every article is checked for missing sources, broken internal links, links to unpublished pages and page structure.
  5. A dated change log. Every change after publication is recorded at the foot of the article with its date.

Reviewers

Articles on law, safety, medication interactions and clinical access need a named, credentialed reviewer, such as a pharmacist, physician or lawyer, before they are published. When a reviewer has checked an article, the article shows their name, credential and the date, and they are listed here.

Of the 196 articles in the journal, 15 are written but held back until a reviewer has checked them. If you are a credentialed professional and would like to review for us, contact us on Instagram or X.

What the journal is not

It is educational. It is not medical, legal or identification advice, and nothing in it recommends a product, a dose or a way to use any substance. Shroomverse sells mushroom products; journal articles carry no product links or prices. For emergencies call 911. For a crisis call or text 9-8-8. For possible poisoning call the Ontario Poison Centre on 1-800-268-9017.
