Psilocybin Therapy and Legal Access in Canada
A neutral map of the lawful routes that exist in Canada. It recommends no clinic, provider or campaign.
No psilocybin product is approved in Canada, and Health Canada says producing, selling and possessing magic mushrooms is illegal. It names three lawful routes, all led by a regulated practitioner or researcher: clinical trials, the Special Access Program and individual section 56(1) exemptions.
The articles below take one route each. The Special Access Program guide follows a practitioner’s request step by step. The section 56 guide explains what the Act lets the Minister of Health exempt and why the public record of grants is thin. The Ontario guide lists what exists in the province: psilocybin studies with an Ontario site, mostly at Toronto hospitals and universities. The Canada guide puts the three routes side by side.
New federal Controlled Substances Regulations came into force on 1 October 2026 and moved some of these authorizations into regulation, so each article gives the date it was checked. None of them recommends a clinic, provider or campaign, and none is medical advice.
