The Canadian Association for Poison Centres and Clinical Toxicology says that if a person is unconscious, not breathing or having a seizure, call 911 (CAPCCT, checked 26 October 2026). The Ontario Poison Centre’s first-aid page gives a similar list: the person stops breathing, collapses or has a seizure (Ontario Poison Centre).
The Canadian Red Cross pocket guide words it more widely, saying to call 911 for an altered level of responsiveness or difficulty breathing and otherwise to call poison control (Canadian Red Cross). Health Canada lists muscle twitching or convulsions and high body temperature among possible physical effects of magic mushrooms (Health Canada).
Speed matters. A 2017 Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse bulletin says the chance of surviving a drug-related poisoning depends partly on how fast the person gets care (CCSA, 2017). With mushrooms, danger can be hidden at first, because the Ontario Poison Centre says illness from a wild mushroom may not start for many hours (Ontario Poison Centre). This is not medical advice.
General information, not medical advice. In an emergency in Canada, call 911. For a mental-health crisis, call or text 9-8-8.
