ClinicalTrials.gov

Also called: NCT number, trial registry

A public registry of clinical studies run by the US National Library of Medicine. It lists trials from around the world, each with an NCT number, but a listing is not an endorsement.

ClinicalTrials.gov is a database of clinical studies run by the US National Library of Medicine. It lists studies from many countries, including Canada, and gives each one a unique NCT number (ClinicalTrials.gov glossary). Records show a study’s design, sponsor, locations, outcomes and recruitment status, and some post results.

It is a key tool for following psychedelic research. On 17 October 2026, it listed 23 psilocybin studies with a Toronto site (ClinicalTrials.gov search, 17 October 2026). The registry itself warns that the US government does not review or approve the safety and science of all listed studies, and that sponsors are responsible for the accuracy of their records (ClinicalTrials.gov disclaimer).

Canada has its own registry tool. Health Canada’s Canadian Clinical Trial Search Portal, launched on 29 July 2026, covers drug trials it has approved since 1 April 2013 (Health Canada). A record can be out of date, and a listing is not an offer of a place: any questions about joining a study belong with a doctor and the study team.
