MUSHROOM PROFILE
There’s more
to know.
Serving guide
Start low. Potency varies from batch to batch, and even between the cap and stem of one mushroom.
| Threshold | about 0.25 g |
|---|---|
| Light | 0.25–1 g |
| Common | 1–2.5 g |
| Strong | 2.5–5 g |
- If it’s your first time, or a new strain or batch, stay at the light end.
- Grinding and mixing a whole pouch evens out the strength from one serving to the next.
- Weigh servings on a scale that reads to 0.01 g. Don’t eyeball them.
- Strains rated 8/10 or higher on our potency scale: start at the low end of any range.
Blue Meanie is Panaeolus cyanescens, a different species from our other mushrooms. Don’t assume a cubensis serving carries over; start at half your usual amount.
Timing
- Onset: usually 20–60 minutes; longer after food, and often longer with chocolate.
- Peak: about 1–2 hours in.
- Duration: about 4–6 hours, with after-effects for up to 8.
Don’t take more because you “don’t feel anything yet”. Wait the full 2 hours.
Don’t combine with
- Lithium. In an analysis of online reports, nearly half of people who combined lithium with a classic psychedelic described a seizure.
- MAOIs, including some antidepressants and harmala brews such as ayahuasca. They can change the effects in ways that are hard to predict.
- Antidepressants (SSRIs, SNRIs and others). These can change or blunt effects. Never stop or change a prescribed medication without talking to your doctor.
- Alcohol, cannabis or other substances. They make effects less predictable.
Avoid psilocybin if you
- have, or have a close family history of, schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, severe bipolar disorder or borderline personality disorder
- have a heart condition or high blood pressure (psilocybin raises heart rate and blood pressure)
- are pregnant or breastfeeding
- are under 18
Never drive or operate machinery for the rest of the day.
